santa fe. fun.

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Tomorrow, we have a full day ahead of us. Late-morning, we will hop in the van, and with full taos mountain gusts pushing us southward, we plan on spending an afternoon in Santa Fe with our lovely friend Flamingo Pink.  At some point, the altitude has convinced each one of us that we can sing about an octave higher than we actually can, so the time has come for us to recruit help. We did some research, found a friend, danced with her for a couple of hours at a party, and begged her to help us out. On our hands and knees.

Plus, we would like to see how some violin might sound on one of the tracks we have yet to release, and luckily, our talented friend does ALL OF THESE THINGS!!! We are super excited to be so close to one of our favorite magical lunch wonderplaces, with its delicious thai salmon coconut salmon soup and incredible sandwiches, so we might hit that up for lunch as well.

Tomorrow night, (roughly 8pm) we are excited to present the news that we will be not only ATTENDING Flamingo Pink’s show at the Backyard Pizza on 2nd St. in Santa Fe, but we will also be accompanying her for at least one song and 1000 good times. If you can make it, come check it out, friends. We will have some fun:

It is 1:15. Early, these days. Sitting here on a dark floral-brown-pattern-suede-pillowed-leather couch in this beautiful Taos home that was so generously offered to us by Darin’s mom’s neighbors, I can’t help but feel two overwhelming, conflicting feelings:

1) RELIEF. Things are really starting to come together. Not like in a “I’ve always dreamed of this” kind of way, but in more of a realistic, day to day, let’s try to make good decisions, take good risks, and trust that good things will happen if we work hard. That kind of thing.

annnnnnnnnnnnnd,

2) MINDBLOW. How are all these things going to get done? I guess mindblow isn’t really as much of a feeling as it is a state of being, and, a state of being I am welcoming more and more every day. I keep telling myself, it is good to have all of these things to do, but the truth is, I don’t know what I am doing. We don’t know what we are doing. We just try to do what we can, learn how to do it better, and ask a lot of questions. There is a lot of beauty in that.

I had a professor in college that used to pronounce the word entrepreneur very strangely. I didn’t know what I was doing in that class. I called a stranger one late night in New York and asked if she needed any help working on a movie directed by Charlie Kaufman. The next day, I was working on that movie. I didn’t know what I was doing. The point is, “I don’t know what I’m doing,” at the very least, means something is being done, and that you can learn a lot more about what it is you are doing. I hope I learn more about being a musician. I hope I can help all of you other talented people learn more about what you want to learn about.

Todd Sklar tells me over and over again, the greatest thing about the building phase is that you can really do anything you want. CAN. CAN. CCCCAAAAANNNNNN. it is not a “have to.” sometimes, that helps.

hopefully!,

Qwest internet provider has incompetent and inconsiderate customer service. Earlier today Mark was on the phone through 7 different representatives over the course of 2 hours. If at all possible, don’t use Quest.  Qwest is to internet provider, as rotten baby bird is to change purse.

Today we returned from Linda’s (Darin’s mom) house to the Rainbow Villa. Linda’s 3 dogs I will miss. Sunny, the Chihuahua, would greet me in the morning by licking my mouth and face.  Here at the Villa the are lots of spiders around.

On our way from Linda’s, we stopped at Albertsons to get food. Our food decisions are to a great extent decided by which foods will get us the most Monopoly game tickets. Albertsons is currently holding a monopoly game with numerous large and small prizes. Some foods award you bonus tickets, other don’t. I wanna win so bad I can taste it. Smell it. If we don’t win, we’re nothing.

I’ve gotta do laundry tomorrow and I’ll probably use a snuggle fresh dryer sheet in the dryer. I’m almost certain I’ll treat myself to this luxury.  Not 100% certain.
