Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Hey everyone — thanks so much for coming out to our shows in Columbia last weekend. We had a blast hanging out with you and hope you had a great weekend!

We’ve been busy in the rehearsal space practicing, but have a special treat for you. Here’s the first Capybara video, straight outta New Mexico. The song is “Birthday Song for Bridgegirl,” which you can download with the rest of the album here!

As we stare down the barrel of a spring storm that’s dumping snow directly in our path home, we can’t help but feel sad as our time in Taos comes to an end.  We’ve loved every minute of our time here and can’t wait to be back.  Weather willing, we’re scheduled to hit the road tomorrow and return to the Midwest just in time for rehearsal and our spring tour.

Details will be coming shortly, so keep your eyes peeled and be sure to sign up for our newsletter to be notified!

In the meantime, we’re excited to offer you ten tracks, two of which are brand-spanking new.  We’re really proud of the work we’ve done here and can’t wait for you to hear them.  Feel free to share them and be sure to comment and let us know what you think!

Sun must set on our time in Taos. *sniff*

we didn’t really see a mountain lion or a wolf

Alright, so it’s been a little while since the last blog, but we have a good reason.  Focus has shifted once again back to recording in the hopes of finishing at least 5 or 6 more songs before we leave.  That goal is looking more and more likely to be met, as three more songs have been finished since we last talked, and four more are quickly progressing towards that horribly scary word: completion.

We had to leave the rental house for the weekend since it was, well, rented out by someone other than us.  That was part of the reason why we could get such an amazing deal on the house: the owner reserved the right to rent it out three times while we were there.  It’s been a welcome break, though.  We’re staying at my mom’s house and a few days ago we drove the entire loop of the Enchanted Circle, which is a series of towns in northern New Mexico (Taos, Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Red River, and Questa).  They are connected by a circle of highway and it’s a beautiful drive.  Then last night Mark and I headed to the tiny town of Penasco for an all-night part of seven bands and seven dj’s, all of whom were female.  We stayed out until 7 (well, 6 really: spring forward!), but the best part was that at said party we ran into literally every single person we know/have met/have spoken to in New Mexico.  By the end we made a bunch of new friends and Penasco Theater has a spot in our hearts.

Joel and Jared didn’t tag along because they were watching a documentary on Einstein’s life, which was frankly a pretty good excuse.  It was a reallllly fascinating documentary, seriously.  Mark and I told them we saw a mountain lion and a wolf on the road to try and make them jealous.  I don’t know if they believed us or not.

My mom is making meatloaf tonight.  I can’t tell you how excited I am about this.  It might be the time in my life when I have been most excited for meatloaf.  Or any kind of loaf, really.  With the exception of a delicious loaf of bread.

Does every country have an equivalent of a San Francisco, or a Portland, or an Austin?  The only one I can say with certainty is kind of like that is Kobe in Japan, because that’s the only city like that outside of the states that I’ve been to.  Fill me in people.

Okay, we’re in a cafe in Taos and we’ve gotta get back to planning the tooooourrrrr.  And I think i’m going to eat some samosas.

Yeah!
